▸ Problem · Agentic commerce

Secure agentic commerce on Shopify, not a demo checkout.

Agents will shop. The question is whether they hit a safe catalog surface with real auth, or a half-wired endpoint that burns trust. This page is for merchants and app teams who want agentic commerce without rewriting the store overnight.

01

The problem

Agentic commerce is not "put ChatGPT on the product page." It is catalog discovery, constrained actions, and checkout paths that respect customer identity and payment rules.

Public writeups and blog experiments skip the hard parts: scopes, protected customer data, idempotent cart mutations, and what happens when an agent retries a buy.

You need a store or app that agents can read and act on safely, with a clear path from UCP readiness to production ops.

02

Who this is for

  • Shopify Plus brands that want agents to discover and buy without a fragile custom stack.
  • App founders adding agent-ready catalog or admin surfaces to a public or private app.
  • Teams who have read the blog posts and now need an implementation plan, not another essay.

What you get

  • An agent-ready catalog or app surface shaped for how agents actually call APIs
  • Auth, scopes, and safety patterns aligned with Shopify Plus and Partner expectations
  • Optional UCP / agentic commerce scaffolding so you are not starting from zero later
  • Webhook-safe and idempotent mutation paths for cart and order side effects
  • Handoff into the Shopify Plus Apps package for public or private delivery

How I approach it

▸ Problem-specific, not a generic playbook

  1. 01

    Separate read from buy

Catalog and discovery surfaces come first. Purchase and customer-mutating actions get stricter auth, clearer scopes, and explicit human or policy gates where needed.

  2. 02

    Respect Shopify's review bar

Scopes, protected customer data, and billing UX are designed for Partner review from day one, not patched in after a rejection.

  3. 03

    Idempotent cart and order flows

Agent retries are normal. Cart and checkout mutations must survive duplicate calls without double charges or ghost line items.

  4. 04

    Ship a thin vertical slice

One agent path end to end (discover → constrain → act) beats a kitchen-sink agent platform. Expand only after the slice is boring and observable.

Questions, answered.

Is this the same as your blog posts?

No. The posts explain the ideas. This page is the problem framing for a build engagement: scoped delivery on your store or app, with CTA into the Shopify package.

Do I need Shopify Plus?

Plus helps for deeper merchant workflows, but many agent-ready surfaces ship as public or private apps on standard plans. Fit is confirmed on the discovery call.

Can agents check out for a customer today?

Carefully. We design constrained paths with the right identity and payment boundaries. Unrestricted "agent buys anything" is usually the wrong v1.

Public app or private build?

Either. Public apps need listing and review discipline. Private Plus apps prioritize deep merchant workflows. The engineering bar is the same.

Ready to make agents shop safely?

Free discovery call. We map catalog vs checkout risk and whether agentic commerce belongs in v1.
